CMS finalized the Home Health Quality Reporting Program (HHQRP) rule for CY 2022, including updates to the home infusion therapy payment rates. The new home infusion therapy payment rate methodology will adjust payment rates based on the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers. Home health providers can now claim an improved Medicare payment rate if they meet the new standards. The final rule also included adjustments to payment rates for home infusion therapy providers.
In order to make the calculation more accurate, CMS used wage data from the Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (HIPPS) and CBSA delineations to determine home health provider wage levels in each geographic area. A wage index is then applied to the labor share of the payment rate. This index takes into account different wage levels in areas where home health services are performed. New Milford VNA Inc.’s Medicare payment rates for home health providers will increase slightly in CY 2022 because of these adjustments.
