HOSPICE & PALLIATIVE CARE
IT ONLY TAKES ONE CALL. WE HANDLE EVERYTHING ELSE.
“When my father needed end of life care, I felt supported by the strong backs and soft hearts at New Milford VNA & Hospice. We are fortunate to have this organization in our community.” —Barbara Henry, Roxbury, CT
Hospice is about honoring life and being surrounded by people who care. Our interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, bereavement counselors, therapists and volunteers is focused on enhancing quality of life during the time that remains. When our team steps in to coordinate medical equipment, manage pain medication, and offer spiritual counsel, the Hospice family can shift to a calmer, peaceful and more meaningful family-centered environment.
Palliative care can begin at diagnosis and continue alongside curative care. When curative care is no longer effective, the patient transitions from Palliative services to Hospice. Palliative and Hospice services are deeply rooted in the spirit of hope, love and respect. Both Hospice and Palliative Care can be received at home, skilled nursing facilities or in a hospital setting. Referrals may come from the patient, family member, physician or other health care clinician. Call us to help determine whether Hospice services are appropriate.
Grief comes in all forms, and for many people a support group helps guide and support them through the lost of a loved one. Our groups meet during the day and evening, and are led by certified grief counselors. Our daytime group, Living Without a Partner, meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month from 10-11:30 at the Richmond Center in New Milford. The evening group, Remembrances, meets the first and third Thursday from 6:30-8:00 at the New Milford VNA & Hospice office. All our support groups are listed on our website calendar.
Additionally, we host a bereavement camp for children. Camp Jonathan is a unique day camp for children and teens ages 6-18 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Held during the summer, it is a one-week camp offered at no charge to participants due to the generosity of our donors. For more information about the camp, please contact Sarah Mott at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“I believe that we all need to feel secure.”
