The Tea for Two Hundred Event Committee is pleased to announce that playwright and AIDS activist Larry Kramer will be this year’s Honorary Chair for the event which will take place on July 19. Mr. Kramer, prominently in the news now for the HBO production of his play The Normal Heart, starring Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts, has been a long-time supporter and past chair of Tea for Two Hundred. Mr. Kramer is a founder of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis organization and the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, organizations which were both founded in the 1980’s to raise funds for and promote educate about the growing AIDS crisis.
Held in the beautiful gardens at the Washington Depot home of Mr. Gael Hammer and Mr. Gary Goodwin, the tea is widely considered Litchfield County’s social event of the season
Partygoers dressed in white will take to the dance floor at the 17th Annual Tea for Two Hundred on Saturday, July 19. Christine Ohlman, the flashy, gritty platinum-blonde “Beehive Queen,” longtime vocalist with NBC’s Saturday Night Live Band, will for the second year be the special guest performer at this fundraising event. The party will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. and the proceeds will benefit the New Milford VNA Hospice Program and the Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury.
The idea for the Tea was conceived in 1995 after the death of Mr. Hammer’s late partner, Timothy Mawson. Linda Lewis, Hospice Director, recalls that she was privileged to be a member of the Hospice Team providing care for Mr. Mawson. “It is so gratifying that New Milford VNA & Hospice is one of the beneficiaries of the Tea. Fundraising is crucial to our program, and we are grateful to be able to help keep this event running so successfully year after year.”
The event will include a silent auction, best hat contest, hors d’oeuvres, delicious desserts and dancing!
